Privacy Policy

The short version

Budget Clan does not have a database of your financial data. Everything you enter — expenses, budgets, accounts, transactions, subscriptions, receipts, and every other record — is written directly to a Google Sheet that Budget Clan creates in your own Google Drive, using your own Google account permissions. We never see, copy, or store that data on any server we operate.

What Budget Clan stores, and where

All of your financial records live only in your Google Drive, in Sheets files owned by you. Budget Clan (running on your device or browser) talks directly to Google's Sheets and Drive APIs on your behalf, using the access you grant during Google Sign-In. There is no Budget Clan-operated database standing between you and Google.

The app also keeps a small amount of local device configuration — such as which files you've opened, display preferences, and (if you choose to use it) your own Gemini AI API key — in your browser's or device's local storage. This never leaves your device except when it's used to call the Google or Gemini APIs directly.

The backend (billing & AI credits)

Budget Clan is introducing optional paid tiers and an app-provided AI credit service. Once that backend is live, it will store, keyed only to an opaque Google account identifier (never your name, email, or financial records):

• Your subscription tier and AI credit balance;
• A technical audit log of AI requests made through the app's own AI service — file type, file size, page count, token counts, and credits used. The document you submitted, its extracted contents, and any values from it are never stored — they are processed in memory and discarded;
• Coarse, non-identifying product usage counters (e.g. which features are used) and error codes, used to improve the app and help with support requests.

If you use your own Gemini API key instead of the app's AI service, your requests go directly from your device to Google's Gemini API and are not seen by Budget Clan's backend at all.

Third parties

• Google — Sign-In, Drive, and Sheets APIs are required to run the app at all. Your use of these is also governed by Google's own privacy policy.
• Google Gemini — only used if you enable an AI feature (receipt scanning, statement import, currency conversion). The document or text you submit is sent to Google's Gemini API to fulfil your request and is not retained on our infrastructure.
• RevenueCat and your app store or payment processor — once paid tiers launch, subscription purchases are handled by RevenueCat and the relevant app store or Stripe. We never see or store your payment card details.

Your control over your data

Because your data lives in your own Google Drive, you control it exactly as you would any other personal file: back it up, share it, export it, or delete it at any time. You can revoke Budget Clan's access entirely from your Google Account permissions page — doing so immediately stops the app from being able to read or write your data.

Cookies & tracking

This website and the app do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics cookies.

Children's privacy

Budget Clan is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the update will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
